Herbs to solve excessive sweating

Excessive sweating is one of the oldest known dermatological conditions. Roughly 1% of the world population is affected by it. The condition has a significant negative impact on the quality of life. Excessive sweating results from excessive sympathetic stimulation of the eccrine sweat glands. Some herbs, such as White Peony root and Astragulus, have been found to be very useful in the treatment of excessive sweating. In this article, we will make you aware of the major natural herbs that are used to treat excessive sweating.

Sage (Salvia officinalis)Sage, botanically known as Savia Officinalis, is a small-sized evergreen shrub, which belongs to the mint family, Lamiaceae. The herb is native to the Mediterranean region, where it is commonly grown as a kitchen or medicinal herb Modern evidence on Sage establishes its properties as an anhidrotic, antibiotic, antifungal, astringent, antispasmodic, estrogenic, hypoglycemic, and tonic. It is believed that the herb is very effective in reducing sweat production in the body. Regular consumption over time can give excellent results in a range of other ailments as well.

White Peony Root (Paeonia albifloria)White peony root, also known as Chinese Peony root, belongs to the Paeoniaceae family and is grown extensively in China. It is a perennial herb that grows to a height of 50-80 cm, with a stout branched root. Its leaves are alternate and bi-alternately compound, while the leaflets are narrow-ovate or elliptical. The plant has red, white and purple flowers. White peony root is known to be very effective against spontaneous sweating due to exterior deficiencies as also against night sweating due to yin deficiencies. For spontaneous sweating, the herb is used with the cinnamon twig and for night sweating, it is used with oyster shell, arborvitae seed etc.

AstragulusAstragulus is a large genus, which covers about 2000 species of herbs and shrubs, all belonging to the Fabaceae legume family. It grows in the temperate regions of the Northern hemisphere. Other common names for Astragulus are milk-vetch, locoweed and goat's-thorn. The herb is an amphoteric to sweating and increases or decreases sweating as needed. It is also medically recommended for treating spleen deficiency symptoms, such as diarrhea, fatigue, sweating and a lack of appetite. It is even used as a tonic for the lungs and is effective in remedying conditions like shortness of breath, asthma and chronic lung problems.

Schisandra Berry (Schisandra chinesis)Schisandra chinensis is a deciduous woody vine that is found in forests of Northern China and the Russian Far East. The berries from this plant are one among the 50 fundamental herbs in Chinese medicine. It helps to build body’s resistance to diseases and stress and serves to reenergize RNA and DNA molecules. In China, the berry has long been used to control night sweat.

Kidney stones and Ayurveda remedy

Kidney stones are one of the most common disorders of the urinary tract. People whose diet is rich in animal protein and low in fibre and fluids, are at higher risk of developing kidney stones. People working under high stress levels with a family history of kidney stones, patients who are bedridden, and people with high blood pressure are also prone to develop kidney stones.
The incidence of kidney stones has been increasing over the past 20 years. On an average, men have an incidence of one in 14 and women of one in 30. People between the ages of 20 and 40 are more likely to develop the condition, as are those with persistent heartburn and those who take antacids for long periods.
Crystals that form in urine and build up on the inner surfaces of the kidney can form stones in the kidney, the urethra, or the bladder. These stones contain various combinations of minerals and other chemicals, some of which are derived from your diet.
Normally, urine contains factors that inhibit stone-building substances from forming crystals, like magnesium, citrate, pyrophosphate etc. A deficiency in these protective substances can result in the formation of crystals. Changes in the pH of the urine, that causes acid or alkaline imbalances, can also affect stone precipitation.
Other causes of kidney stones are a disorder of uric acid metabolism, gout, excess, intake of vitamin D, and blockage of the urinary tact. Certain diuretics or calcium-based antacids may increase the risk of forming kidney stones by increasing the amount of calcium in the urine.
About 70 to 80 per cent of all kidney stones are composed of calcium generally combined with oxalate. Oxalate or oxalic acid is found in a number of common vegetables, fruits, and grains. About 2 per cent of stones are composed of calcium phosphate. About 10 per cent of stones are made up of uric acid, which is the end product of purine metabolism— a nitrogen compound found in protein. Another 9 to 17 per cent of stones are struvite: they are made of magnesium ammonium phosphate. Struvite stones are usually associated with certain urinary tract infections.

Symptoms
In many cases, kidney stones develop silently. You may not experience symptoms in the beginning.
However, when symptoms occur, they frequently include severe pain and blood in your urine. Remember, the size of the stone does not necessarily predict the severity of the pain. You may notice blood in the urine if the stone becomes large. There may be nausea and vomiting. If fever and chills accompany any of these symptoms, you should suspect a urinary tract infection.

Self-Help Guidelines
• A good step to prevent any type of stone is to drink plenty of liquids—water is best.
• Minimize the intake of foods like apples, tomatoes, asparagus, beer, berries, black pepper, cabbage and cauliflower, cheese, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cola drinks, figs, grapes, ice-cream, milk, oranges, butter, pineapples, spinach, tea, vitamin C, and curd. Avoid food with added vitamin D and certain types of antacids that have a calcium base.
• If you pass acidic urine, you may need to eat less meat, fish, and poultry.
• Avoid sedentary lifestyle. At the same time, do not expose yourself to extreme temperatures and dehydrating conditions.

Ayurvedic Remedies

• The bark of henna plant (Mehendi) is an effective remedy for removing urinary stones. Make a decoction by boiling one part of the bark in 20 parts of water until it boils down to a quarter of its original quantity. Take this decoction in doses of 20 to 30 ml, twice or thrice a day.

• Alternately, take the decoction made from leaves and seeds of Radish (mooli) to expel the stones.

• Horse-gram (Dolichus bifloras) soup is an excellent food supplement.

• Paashanabheda and varuna are the two important herbs, which have proved to be effective in the treatment of urinary caliculus. Either the rhizome of paashanabheda in the form of powder or the bark of varuna in the form of decoction can be taken internally.

• Kshaara parpati, shilajit, ashmari hara kashaaya, chandraprabhaa vati are some of the effective medicines used to treat the condition. Gokshura kada is an oral liquid, promoting easy urination and relieves burning sensation. It should be taken 3-4 times per day in doses of 15 ml with equal quantity of water.

Ayurveda Tips to Gain Weight Naturally

While most of our patients and clients approach us to reduce their weight and for treating complaints associated with Obesity, but we also get Clients who come for Gaining weight too. Sometimes it is much more difficult to gain weight than reducing it, and the solution is not to merely eat more food. The types of foods you consume have a direct effect on mood, energy, and overall health, so be sure you are making wise choices. You want to enhance lean muscle mass, not your fat cells.

You will need to up your calorie intake in order to put on weight, but you must use caution. Simply eating more high-calorie junk foods such as ice-cream, fried foods, and candies will only drain your energy and make you feel awful, not to mention contribute to heart disease and diabetes. The objective is to choose higher calorie foods with the most nutrients. Avocados, raw nuts and seeds, nut-butters, dried fruits, and whole grains can give you increase in weight.

Causes for a Lean Body Nature:

1.Inheritance:
It may be due to the genes. Parents or one of the parent has the nature of not gaining weight even though the person involves in any type of food habits or regimen. So this will be inherited by the offspring also.

2.Absorption:
There may be some problem because of which the person’s intestine may not be able to absorb the essential materials or end products of digestion which in turn results in malnourishment  thus leading to underweight.

3.Digestive problems:
The individual may not be in the state of having enough food due to some causes like for eg- some get indigestion if they have even a little extra food, or may be suffering from irritable bowel syndrome, or colitis or something like that. The person may not be involving with correct habits or exercises to get the food digested well, assimilated and the good part of the end product of digestion to be absorbed to meet the body needs.

4.Lack of Knowledge:
The person may be unaware about the proper quantity or proportion of various component of food what he has to consume. Like the vegetables which he has to take about half the portion of his meal, then fats and carbs together about 1/4 part of his diet, proteins and vitamins to ¼  th part of his meal. Thus it goes on. We generally say this as stomach may be divided to 3 parts and - 1/3rd of it must be filled with solid food, - another  1/3  rd must be filled with liquid particals
- last 1/3 rd must be left vacant for the air to circulate and aid the digestion.

5.Low Hb% in the body:

If a person is anemic also then won’t gain weight.so boost up your Hb%

6.Unkown cause:
Here no matter what ever the person does, there are no problems of digestion absorption or malnourishment but the individual remains thin but active and healthy. This can be called as his inborn constitution and does not create any problem to the person

Tips to gain weight for skinny guys.

1. Track Calories. Skinny guys often overestimate what they eat. Read the labels, use a food scale and track your daily caloric intake. You need at least your body-weight in lbs x 20kcal daily to gain weight.

A rule of thumb is at least 1kg for each cm above 1m (use this converter). Anything less you'll always look skinny. There's no upper limit, if you want to weigh more go for it. Examples of minimum goal weights:

1m70/5'7" at least 70kg/154lbs
1m75/5'9" at least 75kg/165lbs
1m80/5'11" at least 80kg/176lbs
1m85/6'1" at least 85kg/187lbs
1m90/6'3" at least 90kg/200lbs

2. Eat Every 3 Hours. You need at least your body-weight in lbs x 20 kcal to gain weight. That's 2700kcal/day if you're 135lbs. If you have a physical job or move a lot, you'll need even more. Eat every 3 hours.

Breakfast. Get calories from the first hour. Read how to build the habit of eating breakfast and try these breakfast recipes.
Lunch & Diner. Prepare double portions while making breakfast. 1 portion for work/school, 1 portion when you get back.
Snacks. Mixed nuts, fruits, dried fruits, yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, sandwiches, milk, protein shakes, ...
Post Workout. Physical activities burn calories. Eat post workout to get that energy back. Check this post workout shake recipe.

3. Eat Calorie Dense Foods. 100g raw rice is 380kcals. 100g raw spinach is only 25kcals. Getting your daily calorie intake is easier if you eat foods high in calories. Your best options:

Pasta. 100g pasta is 380kcal and easier to ingest than 100g rice. Whole grain pasta is healthier, but takes longer to digest. Eat white pasta.
Whole Milk. If you don't bother gaining some fat, drink 1 gallon whole milk per day on top of your current food intake. I've seen guys gaining 60lbs/year drinking 1 gallon per milk per day while Squatting 3x/week.
Nuts. Mixed nuts & natural peanut butter have +500kcal/100g, about 50% healthy fats and 25% protein. Use mixed nuts as snack & throw peanut butter on sandwiches for work/school.
Olive Oil. Protects against heart diseases & cancer. Sip it like vodka (it's not that bad, really) or use it for tomato pasta sauce. 1tbsp is 100kcal.
Juices  If you are not in the mood for big meals or frequent feedings, creating drinks in the blender is the way to go. You can easily down several hundred calories in a few minutes while at the same time providing your body with a hefty dose of whole-food nutrients.
Try this: Frozen bananas, a few spoonfuls of peanut butter, a couple of medjool dates, and unsweetened vanilla soymilk. Or mix up frozen strawberries, fresh mangos, brazil nuts, medjool dates, and unsweetened almond milk. If you are craving extra protein, toss in some hemp protein powder.

4. If You Don't Already Exercise, Start Doing So
You want to go from skinny to muscular, not from skinny to chubby. Get into strength training. More strength is more muscle. Physical activity can help induce hunger signals in your body, therefore encouraging you to eat more. After using energy for workouts, it only follows that you will need to replenish with food. Exercise is catabolic, meaning that tissue is being broken down. What builds it back up is the nutrition you put into your body. Think of your food as fuel. If you eat junk, your body will have difficulty using it to build and repair itself. If you eat wholesome, natural foods that are designed by nature rather than produced in factories, your body benefit significantly.

Attempting to put weight on can be just as tough as trying to lose it. Remember to make sure you are feeding your body high-quality foods with which to build itself. And no, you do not need massive amounts of meat or protein powders to put on muscle. That is an old nutrition myth that refuses to die. Consider some of the largest, strongest animals like elephants, horses, and cows, all of who subsist on vegetation. Stick to eating mostly whole plant foods, keep your body active, and you will look amazing, feel incredible, and achieve your goal weight.

Some tips keep in mind while doing exercise.

(i)Free Weights. Force you to stabilize the weight and allow for natural motions. Start light, focus on technique and add weight progressively.
(ii)Compound Exercises. Do exercises that work your whole body. Squats, Deadlifts, Overhead Press, Bench Press, Pull-ups, Dips, Barbell Row, ...
(iii)Squat. Leg exercise stressing your whole body. When you can Squat 1.5x your body-weight for 1 rep, you'll no longer be skinny. Squat often.
(iv)Rest. Muscle grow when you rest, not when you work out. Don't train daily. Sleep, drink 1 gallon water daily and eat fruits/veggies.

Natural tips to Avoid Gas Problems- Bloating, Flatulence, Belching

Intestinal gas, more commonly called stomach gas, not only cause discomfort and gas pain but are embarrassing too. Although gas problems like bloating, burping and passing gas are natural, they might become serious and affect our daily activities. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid all the abdominal gas problems, the common ones being bloating, flatulence and belching. For intestinal gas treatment or for avoiding bloating, flatulence and belching, one must know the underlying causes for excessive intestinal gas formation and should adopt required dietary changes and other measures including medications if necessary.

How to Avoid Bloating?
Bloating makes a person feel that his/her abdomen has become enlarged. Dilation of abdomen can be caused by anything- fluid, tumors, enlarged organs, or fat within the abdomen. However, the most common cause of bloating is excessive formation of intestinal gas that could not be passed through belching or flatulence. Bloating often causes abdominal pain that can be mild and dull or sharp and intense gas pain. Bloating gas relief can be had by passing gas or having a bowel movement.

Avoid Foods that Cause Gas and Bloating
Where the cause of bloating is excessive intestinal gas formulation, it is usually due to fatty foods and some other foods that cause gas and bloating. To avoid bloating, reduce or totally avoid such foods depending upon the seriousness of bloating problem. Common foods that cause gas and bloating include Baked beans, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Carbonated drinks, Cauliflower, Chewing gum, Fruits like apples, peaches and pears, Hard candy, and Lettuce among others.

How to Avoid Flatulence?
Flatulence, simply stated, is gas buildup in the colon. It is caused due to production of gas by bacteria within intestines during the process of digesting sugars and polysaccharides. Some bacteria are more capable of producing gas and thus they result into chronic flatulence. Other causes of flatulence include maldigestion or malabsorption of sugars and polysaccharides as well as bacterial overgrowth of the small intestine. Constipation too is one of the causes of flatulence as the longer food waste remains in colon, the more time it has to ferment that in turn produces stomach gas.

Avoid Foods that Cause Flatulence
Anyone suffering from the gas problem of flatulence must avoid such food that form excessive intestinal gas like beans, peas, lentils, cabbage, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, bananas, raisins, whole-wheat bread, salads and carbonated drinks. Many people are intolerant of lactose and as such milk and dairy products too should be avoided by them to treat flatulence. Apart from avoiding flatulence causing food, one must also take the following measures.

• Avoid or cut back on fatty foods.
• When excessive gas is formed in your intestine, reduce intake of high fiber foods (temporarily though). When the flatulence problem is under control, start including high fiber foods in your diet gradually.
• Have more smaller meals and avoid having two or three large meals. Also eat slowly to aid proper digestion of the food you eat.
• Do not just sit back or lie down after meals. Have a slow walk or move around doing light works. This aids digestion and avoids flatulence.
How to Avoid Belching?
Belching, also called burping, is the normal act of expelling out stomach gas through mouth. Belching is, in fact, caused by inflated stomach that has dilated due to swallowed air. Air can be swallowed while gulping food and drinking rapidly or due to anxiety as well as carbonated drinks. The swallowed air in the stomach (stomach gas) causes abdominal discomfort that in turn results into belching for expelling the air out to get gas relief. Acid reflux or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) can also cause belching. When stomach acid backs up into esophagus, the person may swallow repeatedly in order to clear the material. This sometimes leads to swallowing more air and more belching. To avoid belching, take the following measures.

• Make habit of eating and drinking slowly. This will eliminate the chance of swallowing air.
• Avoid carbonated beverages and beer as they release carbon dioxide gas. Also, avoid drinking through a straw.
• Avoid chewing gum. The action causes you to swallow more often increasing the chances of swallowing air.
• Quit smoking. Smoking not only causes belching and other intestinal gas problems, it is also not good for general health.
• People using dentures should take care of the proper fit of their denture sets otherwise they can unknowingly swallow air while eating and drinking causing stomach gas.
• If suffering from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), treat it to avoid belching. Read Home Remedies for Heartburn/ Acid Reflux

Treat Premature Greying of hair with Ayurveda

That little strand of grey hair peeking out from beneath your lustrous black mane can often be a source for alarm bells to go off in your head. I’m so young; I can’t be ageing. Unfortunately in today’s world of unavoidable stress, pollution and junk food, your hair ages faster than you do.

A chemical called melanin helps produce the colour of hair. As a person ages, the pigment inside the hair follicle dies. The result is less melanin in the hair, giving it a grey or white appearance. Usually the first grey hairs appear near temples and then spreads to the crown and then to the back of the head. According to Ayurveda, our hair is a by-product of bone formation and the tissue responsible for building bones is also responsible for the growth of hair. Early hair loss is related to body type and the balance of the mind-body constitution (doshas). Of course this premature ageing is a combination of various factors like lifestyle, genetic makeup or a medical condition. Increased intake of fried, sour, spicy, salty, and fermented foods, as well as tea and coffee, aggravate the Pitta Dosha (Ayurvedic humor representing Fire) in the body. People who have excess Pitta in their body are likely to lose their hair early in life, or have premature grey hair.

This Pitta accumulates in the skin of the scalp, leading to hair falling out and greying prematurely. Factors like excessive anger and stress are also responsible. So your job could effectively be contributing to your dilemma. Excessive consumption of alcohol and meat also aggravate Pitta. Lack of Vitamins, iron, iodine and copper in the daily diet, an unclean scalp, using hair dyes in the initial stages of graying or factory made hair oils, also contribute to the problem. For you ladies, try and stay away from those hair dryers. Diseases like chronic constipation, anemia, sinusitis, chronic cold can aggravate the condition.

A combination of diet, herbs, oil massage, meditation, aromatherapy, breathing and yoga can be beneficial in addressing the problem of hair loss and premature greying of hair. Avoid Pitta-aggravating foods like spicy, heavy, and oily foods, as well as tea and coffee, refined foods, refined sugar, junk food, and alcoholic and carbonated drinks. Increase intake of fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, curry leaves and vegetable juice prepared from lettuce, carrot, capsicum, and alfalfa. For external application, stick to natural herbal oils and shampoos. Amla or the Indian gooseberry is an excellent tonic for premature greying of hair.

Some medicated hair oils for premature greying of hair are:

NeeliBhringamalakaTailam, BhringarajTailam, Brahmi Amla KeshaTailam. Shad BinduTailam is used for inhalation (Nasya) once daily for 1 to 2 months. 5-10gm of TriphalaChurna taken at bedtime with milk or water over a long period, can prove very effective in curing premature greying of hair.

    Treat Migraine yourself

About two thirds of migraine sufferers cannot function at a normal level when they get a migraine attack. You should see a doctor if your headaches interfere with work or family life, if headaches are getting worse, or if you take medication on a daily basis for headache.
Below are 10 simple solutions to ease your migraine pain, but are not intended as substitutes for the advice of a doctor.

1 Get a good night's sleep. Changes in sleep patterns, changing shifts, and jet lag can trigger migraines. Try to maintain a regular schedule and get up and go to bed at the same time every s

2 Lie down, put an ice pack wrapped in a towel or a cold compress on your throbbing head to soothe swollen, pulsing blood vessels until the pain subsides.

3 If you don't want to put a cold compress on your head to relieve the pain, soak one or both of your hands in ice water for as long as you can tolerate it. While your hands are in the water, ball them into fists and open and close them repeatedly. It can have the same effect as a compress on your heart

5 Keep the room dark. Light sometimes aggravates migraine symptoms, lie down in a dark room.

6 Do not skip meals. Skipping meals can trigger a migraine attack. If you can, eat smaller meals throughout the day or be sure to eat three meals.

7 Take note of what you eat. Certain foods triggers a migraine attack in about ten percent of migraine sufferers. It can take from 30 minutes to 12 hours for a food to cause a reaction. If you get a migraine, think back to what you ate in that time frame and try eliminating some of those foods from your diet.

8 Take riboflavin. Studies have shown that taking 400 milligrams a day of riboflavin can help eliminate migraines.

9 Spice it up. The hot ingredient in red pepper, capsaicin, is a terrific painkiller and may help those who have migraines feel better during an attack. You do not need to include red pepper in all your meals. You can buy cayenne pepper capsules in health food stores.

10 Try not to sleep late on weekends. Though it might seem like a reward to relax and sleep in, giving yourself that letdown after stress is a common trigger. Waking up late can also trigger a migraine by changing your normal sleep pattern and may cause you to miss breakfast which also triggers a migraine. If you really must sleep late on the weekends, try sleeping with a tiny bit of your window open to let air in.

11 If you're prone to vomiting during migraines, keep a can of Campbell's Chicken Broth upside down in your refrigerator. Really. After you're finished in the bathroom, take out the can, turn it right-side up, open, pour out the broth (leave the fat stuck to the top), and drink it once you're able. Replaces needed electrolytes, etc., helps relieve the weakness and general malaise. Don't know why Campbell's works better than any other brand, but it does.

12 Sometimes a bath helps. Take a bath in your bathroom with the lights off. Soak yourself face down (don't forget to come up for air) and just try and relax your body.

13 In some cases, low levels of the hormone progesterone appear to increase the frequency and severity of migraines. If you are a woman, and your migraines occur more often in the 2 weeks before menses, be suspicious and ask your doctor to check your progesterone levels (note: many doctors are unaware of this link, but if your levels are found to be low, they may be willing to prescribe supplementation). Progesterone is safe enough to be sold without prescription (Progest cream is a good brand), and it's worth a try, but some migraine sufferers require a higher dose than the non-prescription cream can provide. There are even occasional reports that a much smaller dose of progesterone can help relieve migraines in men (no studies done, though). More information on progesterone supplementation can be found at How to Get Through PMS. WARNING: Provera is NOT the same as natural progesterone and has been known to INCREASE migraine symptoms; if you are going to try progesterone make sure it IS progesterone (Progest, Prometrium, or compounded progesterone are; Provera, medroxyprogesterone, or birth control pills are NOT).

14 Use acupressure to momentarily relieve pain; tap three times on your temple, your shoulder and then the inside of your wrist. Repeat
